CAA issues alert for heavy thunderstorms in several Oman governorates

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority, (CAA), has warned of the possibility of heavy thunderstorms in most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman today, April 23, 2023, including Muscat Governorate.

The CAA issued the sixth warning of heavy rain expected today from 11 AM to 11 PM.

In the alert, the authority warned of heavy thunderstorms that are likely to occur during the noon and the evening. This is concentrated in the governorates of Al Sharqiyah South, Al Sharqiyah North, and parts of Muscat Governorate. It also extends to include the governorates of Al Wusta, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah.

The Civil Aviation Authority called on everyone to take caution during thunderstorms, not to cross valleys, avoid low places, and not go to the sea during the warning period.

Alerts:

- Heavy rains, ranging from 20-70 mm, lead to runoff of valleys and reefs.

- Active downward winds, with speeds ranging between 15 and 50 knots (28-90 km/h).

- Low horizontal visibility due to rising dust when thunderstorms occur.
