Sur: Oman Film Society and the Organising Committee of the second edition of Al Sharqiyah International Film Festival unveiled yesterday the details of the four – day festival which will kick off in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate on 11 January 2024.
A number of artists and cinema stars from the Sultanate of Oman, the GCC States and the Arab World will take part in the event.
Dr. Humaid bin Said Al Ameri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Film Society (OFS) reaffirmed that Oman Film Society is relentlessly working for dissemination of the movie culture in all governorates of the Sultanate through the film festivals.
He said that the second edition of Al Sharqiyah International Film Festival coincides with the announcement of Sur as the Capital of Arab Tourism 2024.
The festival is a platform for cultural, artistic and heritage diversification of South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, he added.
Anwar bin Khamis Al Ruzaiqi, Director of Al Sharqiyah International Film Festival said that the arbitration committee of the festival for short movies comprises Walid Ahmed Darwish from Syria as chairman of the committee and members are Dr. Hussamuddin Mustafa Daghir (Egypt), Khamis Al Rawahi (Oman).
For short documentaries, the committee comprises Javin Li (China) as chairman and members are Hussein Al Khawalid (Kuwait) and Dr. Jinan Al Isa from Oman.
He said that the number of films taking part in the festival amounted to 255 from 35 countries of which 36 films have qualified including 20 international movies and 16 Omani films. He said that there are 12 prizes in six categories. - With ONA inputs
