
Seeb: The Ministry of Social Development today held an introductory workshop about the national guide on standards for licensing and classification of institutions that provide services to persons with disabilities. The workshop was held at the National Autism Center in the Wilayat of A'Seeb.
The workshop was held under the auspices of Sulaiman Nasser Al Hajji, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Administrative and Financial Affairs.
The workshop included a visual presentation on the new national Guide.
Three working papers were held as part of the workshop. The first paper, which focused on the details of the guide, was presented by Dr. Nadia Ali Al Ajmi, Director of the National Autism Center (who was Director of the Guide’s Preparation Project).
The second working paper, titled “Licensing”, was presented by Mohammed Manee.
The third working paper, titled “Classification and Quality”, was co-presented by Tamer Aliu-Deen and Dr. Ayman Magdy.
The Guide has been one of the outcomes of programmes titled “Laboratory for Developing Services to Persons with Disabilities”.
The Guide serves as a practical reference that aims to help institutions and specialists operating in the sector to adhere to the best local and international standards, promote transparency and accountability, encourage innovation and investment in this sector and support efforts for the comprehensive accommodation of persons with disabilities in society in a manner that contributes to improving the quality of programmes and services that are provided to this segment.
The workshop included a review of the general framework of the national guide on standards of licensing and classification of governmental, non-governmental and private institutions that provide services to persons with disabilities.
The workshop also dealt with licensing requirements for institutions that provide services and programmes to persons with disabilities. It elaborated on licenses for institutions or units owned by individuals, as well as institutions or units owned through the partnership system and licenses for professional staff in private or non-governmental institutions or units.
The workshop discussed the criteria of classifying institutions that provide services and programmes to persons with disabilities. The target establishments include rehabilitation centres affiliated to the Ministry of Social Development, private schools that provide services to students with disabilities and rehabilitation centres affiliated to the Ministry of Health.
The workshop focused on upgrading the quality of services provided to this segment of society in a safe and efficient environment, in accordance with legal and health standards and best international practices.
